Business owner detains attempted robbery suspect

The Delaware State Police have arrested a Millsboro man in connection with an attempted robbery of Hitchens Auto Sales near Georgetown after a business owner detained the suspect until troopers arrived.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. Monday  as a  54-year-old female employee was standing at the counter inside Hitchens Auto Sales on Seashore Highway.

A white male entered the store and removed a handgun from his waistband demanding money from the woman  As the female start  screaming out to the owner, the  suspect  retreated  from the store. 

When he exited the front door of the business, he was met by the 50-year-old male store owner who was armed with a metal pipe. The store owner was able to force the man to the ground and disarm the suspect until troopers arrived.

Aaron R. Jefferson, 27,  was taken into custody without incident and during a pat down search was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was then transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with Attempted Robbery 1st, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned and committed on  $120,100.00 cash bond.
