Roast pork and cheese  steak seller Tony Luke’s is  coming to the northern edge of Delaware.

The popular Second Helpings blog of News Journal food columnist Patricia Talorico reports that a Tony Luke’s will open in the Acme in Lantana Square in Hockessin. The store is undergoing remodeling work. Luke  has an  Acme deli department location in another upper income zip code, Bryn Mawr.

Under Tony Luke, Jr. the company has expanded beyond its Philadelphia shop that looks like a scene from one of the Rocky movies. Luke, listed as an actor on his biography, has also gained exposure on The Food Network and other cable channels.

Locations now include The Borgata resort-casino in Atlantic City,  the stadiums for the Phillies and Eagles and a lone overseas location in Bahrain.

Also offered is a frozen cheese steak in the freezer isle of Acme that’s surprisingly tasty and a bit pricy.

Never shy when it comes to publicity, Tony Luke, Jr. has also lost 100 pounds while still eating a steak or two. That generated even more media buzz.

For Acme, the Luke name will help draw customers as it struggles with lower market share figures that now have Shoprite at the top of the grocery business in the Delaware Valley.

Acme is part of grocery giant SuperValu.
