Downtown Visions Main Street Program launched “Tear Down The Walls,” a project aimed at eliminating unsightly gates in downtown Wilmington.
It’s the newest project of group’s Façade Improvement Program. Beginning Friday at the kick-off event, exterior security gates will be removed from buildings along Market Street starting in the 700 block.
The project aims to address the negative perception of visitor safety in downtown Wilmington and allows the architectural qualities of the buildings to be seen. In large numbers, the gates make areas look like urban war zone.
Concerns have intensified with the opening of The Queen complex and other revitalization projects on Market Street.
