At the time of the Sunday release, Twitter reports indicated a rumbling noise was coming from the refinery. The refinery has reported a number of releases over the summer, often caused by compressor trips.
Reports of releases can trigger higher gasoline prices. PBF typically does not comment on the nature of the releases and the effect on production. Refinery problems have been cited as a factor in gas price increases. Analysts are now watching the Gulf of Mexico and the course of Isaac, a tropical storm that is expected to become a hurricane.
