With the University of Delaware back in session and summer winding down, the Newark Police Department is asking residents to take precautions when holding house parties.

The department issued a release advising those holding the parties to not allow uninvited guests inside homes and to call police when the party is getting out of control or those on the property  do not not honor requests to leave.

The release noted that those holding the party are often worried about being cited for violations if a call is made to police.

However, if police receive a noise or other complaint from a neighbor, the occupant of the house or apartment can be subject to a different level of enforcement. At the same time the department has no plans to back off of enforcement of noise violations or other disturbances, the release stated.

In issuing the release, the department cited previous incidents related to parties that have included armed robbery.
