Delaware State Police have arrested a New Castle man in connection with the death of a man with special needs and his caretaker. The State Medical Examiner ruled the victims died from blunt force trauma, apparently from a hammer.
The investigation begam at 4:20 p.m. Saturday after troopers were called to a residence located in the 4000 block of New Castle Avenue in New Castle. A relative of Joseph Taylor went to the residence after Taylor, who has special needs, and his caretaker, Mary Dale.
When the relative and a male friend who accompanied the relative, they found the two victims dead and the smell of gas being emitted from a stove.
Through interviews, Mactavish M. Alexander, 50 of New Castle, was identified as a suspect. He was arrested Sunday night for two counts of Murder 1st, two counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited. He is being held without bail.
