Burglary spree at Suburban Plaza, Newark (video)


Newark Police  are investigating a burglary spree during the early morning hours of Aug. 23rd at Suburban Plaza Shopping Center off Elkton Road.
At 2:39 a.m. officers checked an alarm at Fulton Paper. Officers found that the suspect who had already fled, wedged open the front door and once inside, pried open the cash register. Officers then discovered five more stores had also been burglarized in a similar way, with he suspect attempting to enter three other stores. The suspect was successful at taking an undisclosed amount of cash from several of the businesses.
The businesses include: Joy Garden, Bagelmania, Curves, Fulton Paper, Spa-Lon and Post Net. The suspect attempted to gain access at Wireless Zone, the Blue Crab Grill and EZ Loan.
The suspect was captured on surveillance video at Bagelmania. In the video the suspect can be seen using several tools to pry open the cash register to gain access to the cash drawer. He is described as a white male about 6 feet tall with grayish brown hair. The suspect is wearing a blue short sleeve shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and surgical gloves.
Police believe the suspect is responsible for a May 20th burglary of the Applebee’s, also in Suburban Plaza.
During that burglary, the suspect entered the Applebee’s at about 5:30am and once inside, removed a safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
