Bayhealth has moved a step closer toward a new hospital in Milford.

The health care system selected EwingCole to develop the master facility plan that will become the footprint for the new hospital on the Bayhealth Milford Memorial campus.

EwingCole is  a  fully integrated architecture, engineering, interior design, and planning firm with offices in Philadelphia, Irvine, California, New York, and Washington D.C.   EwingCole is expected to complete this key phase in the next 18 months.

In making the announcement, Bayhealth Milford Memorial’s Administrator Michael Ashton said, “We are excited at the prospect of developing the future service delivery model for healthcare in Southern Delaware. EwingCole will assist us in evaluating our existing site and make recommendations about building locations and the overall use of the property.  In addition, they will help assess how to optimize the location and our placement of services within our community.”

Since Bayhealth owns sufficient acreage, the new facility will be located on the existing campus of Bayhealth Milford Memorial, which has been in existence since 1938.

Ashton says the new facility will be a full-service community hospital with state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient  care capabilities.

“When completed, this full-service hospital will help the organization respond to the inevitable challenges health care reform will present and the need for expanded clinical integration and growth in ambulatory care services,” said Ashton.

When the new facility opens, the community will have emergency services, intensive care, surgical services, diagnostic and imaging services, inpatient dialysis, OB/GYN, inpatient rehabilitation beds, and medical/surgical beds. All patient rooms will be private to improve patient privacy and provide more space for family and provider-patient interaction.
