The failure of a compressor at the Delaware City Refinery led to the release of less than 100 pounds of sulfur dioxide on Thursday.

A filing with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control said the release was reported around 4 a.m. It was repaired around 9:30 a.m. The refinery is  owned by PBF Energy, which is based in northern New Jersey.

Bloomberg reported PDF also reported a problem at its Paulsboro, N.J. refinery this week. News of the problems, coupled with lower east coast  gasoline inventories led to increases in the New York gasoline.

Gasoline prices at the pump are also up after steady declines. According to AAA’s Fuel Price Finder, the price at the pump for regular was nearly $3.37 a gallon, up a nickel from a week ago, but 20 cents below a year ago.
