Delaware State Police Detectives have arrested Mark A. Carter, 45, of Smyrna after he allegedly attempted to rob an Amish couple riding in a buggy near Hartly.
The buggy was stopped early Sunday afternoon when a car pulled in front and the driver, who was later identified as Mark A. Carter, 45, of Smyrna, jumped out of his vehicle armed with a handgun.
Carter demanded their money and when the couple was unable to come up with any cash fled the area.
Victims were able to obtain a registration number and a trooper saw the suspect’s vehicle. The vehicle was stopped, leading to the arrest of Carter. During a search of the vehicle, Carter was found to be in possession of a .22 caliber handgun and guitars that had been reported stolen during a Smyrna burglary. Carter was arraigned on numerous charges and held on $123,100 cash bond.
Detectives: Home Depot robbery staged
State Police have arrested a female Home Depot employee and a male acquaintance in connection with the staged robbery June of the Home Depot on Churchmans Road, Newark.
Troopers reported a male suspect entered the Garden Center of the Home Depot and approached a female employee at the cash register demanding money. The cashier complied and the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Detectives were able to determine that the employee, Jasmin E. Rodriguez, 22, New Castle and an acquaintance, Christopher M. Schmidt,40, Wilmington, staged the robbery and shared the proceeds.
Rodriguez was released on $1,500 bond. Schmidt was already in custody from a previous Delaware State Police and Newark Police Department investigation charging him with the July robberies of the Cigarette City in Newark, as well as Holiday Hair and Super Dry Cleaners in Bear.
