The Pennsylvania gaming industry is maturing, with only a single digit gain in revenues last month.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that the play of slot machines at the 11 operating casinos produced $212.5 million in revenue in May, compared to $205.5 million during May of last year, an increase of 3.4 percent .
The commonwealth’s gaming industry emerged as a major player in the regional and national scene as state regulators moved quickly to approve casinos and add table games.
That has put financial pressure on Delaware casinos and at least temporarily shelved talk of adding casinos. With the massive MarylandLive slots venue opening near Baltimore this week, there have been warnings that the industry is reaching the saturation point.
The closest casino to Delaware, Harrah’s Philadelphia, changed its name from Harah’s Chester, as it works to compete with casinos that have sprung up around it. Harrah’s reported a 1.2 percent decline in revenues in the May report.
