The competition between two bills seeking to create the crime of “home invasion” appears to be over.

The House of Representatives unanimously approved House Bill 277 (as amended) Thursday, sending it to Gov. Jack Markell to be signed into law.

Rival bills are rare in Delaware politics, especially since both houses are controlled by Democrats.

Once believed to have been largely limited to the drug trade, concern over home invasions has grown as more elderly residents have been targeted.

Concern has also spread to door-to-door canvassers, a few of whom have been suspected of “casing”  homes.
