While jobless numbers have dropped in northern Delaware, the situation is better north of the state line.
Chester County’s, Pa.’s jobless rate was 5.8 percent in March.
That compares to 7 percent for neighboring New Castle County and more than 10.5 percent for Wilmington. The strongest performance came from Newark, which saw its jobless rate fall to 5 percent in March.
Chester County rolled through the economic downturn in better condition that New Castle, thanks to a diversified economy that did not have to contend with the lingering effects of the loss of two auto assembly plants late in the decade.
It also has the Chester County Economic Development Council, a private sector-based organization with a long track record in the business of attracting, retaining and aiding in financing of employers.
