Wilmington Renaissance Corporation  received a $10,000 Challenge America grant.

The grant would support the artist-led creation of a community public artwork.

The Challenge America category features NEA support for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations—those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. A number of these grantees have a history of support in both the Challenge America and ArtWorks categories.

For the fiscal year 2018, the NEA will award 138 Challenge America grants of $10,000 each for a total of $1.38 million to organizations in 42 states.

OperaDelaware also announced a $10,000 NEA grant this week.

WRC was founded in 1993 as Wilmington 2000, a public-private partnership between The Office of the Mayor and the corporate community.

The organization is privately funded and directs its energies toward stimulating the city’s economy, attracting new residents and fostering ideas that enrich the culture.

Established by Congress in 1965, the NEA is the independent federal agency whose funding and support gives Americans the opportunity to participate in the arts.
