goPuff, an on-demand convenience store delivery service,  crunched the numbers and came up with the results of the first-ever ‘Munchie Meter’ after the Big Game.

The company has a delivery operation in the Newark area.

Using high volumes of propriety real-time data each year, goPuff analyzed direct response of orders and deliveries in real time with  advertisements during the Sunday game.

By analyzing real-time orders, goPuff compared the timing of products purchased to the air time of each highly-anticipated commercial to see which ads generated actual purchases in addition to entertainment.

Based on their analysis of shopping trends in key cities throughout the country including the Eagles’ home base in Philadelphia, the New England Patriots’ hometown of Boston, and other large markets, goPuff identified the following national trends in immediate response to ads, as compared to purchase behavior on other Sundays:

  • During the 1st quarter, Mountain Dew sales grew 17 percent immediately following the ad with Morgan Freeman
  • Pepsi sales rose 12 percent during the 2nd quarter and halftime show directly after the commercial
  • Right after their ad in the 1st quarter, Doritos sales grew by 10 percent.
  • Pringles sales went up 8 percent in the 2nd quarter immediately following the brand’s ad with Bill Hader
  • Like Danny DeVito, M&Ms sales growth fell short, climbing just 6 percent in the 1st quarter following the brand’s commercial

“We’re excited to share the results of the first goPuff Munchie Meter which shows tangible insights for brands about what may trigger an impulse buy, and what might not,” said Rafael Ilishayev, co-Founder of goPuff. “Our data offers key insights to the behavior of consumers all year, but the information found on one of the busiest snack days of the year can help brands shift their tactics and advertising dollars for the remainder of the year to develop campaigns that drive sales.”

Philadelphia-based goPuff is expanding to more than 24 markets, with further national expansion planned in  2018.
