Ground broken for Odessa High and middle school

Groundbreaking is slated for Tuesday for Odessa High and Cantwell’s Bridge Middle  School.

Last year,  voters in the Appoquinamink School District approved a $268 million referendum that will lead to three new schools and expansion of two existing buildings.

A district release stated that “to  our knowledge, the Fairview Campus piece will result in the first and only K-12 Public School Campus in the nation.”

The middle and high school that will share certain common spaces (including a performing arts center, a media center, and kitchen.

The project will also have a  public-private child care partnership that will create a learning lab for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Pathway, a school-within-a-school focus on career pathways. The complex includes student-run enterprise centers – a bank, café, coffee bar, florist, design studio and school store.

The project will create hundreds of jobs in construction during the building period.

Later this month, Superintendent  Matthew Burrows will begin delivering Construction Updates to the dozens of business, civic and school organizations who hosted referendum meetings, the district announced.

Construction manager for the project is EDiS, Wilmington, with Buck Simper + Associates project architect.
