Delaware is a red state in a sea of blue.
No, we’re not talking about political parties that mapmakers who used red to define Republican control.
CenturyLinkQuote instead painted the First State red on a national map to mark its allegiance to social media app Pinterest and its red corporate theme.
According to the report, the photo gallery-driven app beats out Facebook and other apps in popularity in Delaware. Neighboring states favored Google Plus, although Connecticut and New Hampshire also leaned toward Pinterest.
Many, including those doing the study, was surprised that Google Plus ranked first.
Ranking second was mobile application Snapchat, which is popular among teens, with Pinterest holding down the third spot. Snapchat is also known for its filters that can bend and reshape images.
“Since Google Plus seems popular in states like California and Washington, which tend to be on the cutting edge of technology, it’s worth paying attention to Google’s much-maligned app. Who knows: according to data like this, it could be the social media trendsetter of the future,” a release stated.
Researchers noted that Google Plus was rolled out as a rival to Facebook. It has fared poorly in that quest.
Both Pennsylvania and Maryland are Google Plus states and have large technology and education communities.
The report used research from SimilarWeb, a data gathering and marketing tool based in Israel and Google Search Trends to see how often people in each state searched for the most popular social media apps.
Facebook, the oldest of the social media apps, ranked fourth. Despite President Trump’s use of Twitter, the app did not rank in the top five.
