Rehoboth  Beach employees have moved into the new municipal complex, the city manager’s office reported.

The new City Hall houses the Administration, Finance, Information Technology, Building & Licensing and Alderman’s Court offices along with the Rehoboth Beach Police Department.

There is a reception area at the main entrance where staff greet citizens and assist with business.

“You will notice a high ceiling off the main lobby and office area. Doing away with dim corridors and confusing split departments, the new facility opts instead for a centralized atrium glowing with natural light and space for citizens and employees to conduct business. All of the lighting is LED, which will save energy dependent on usage,” the City Manager’s office reported.

Other improvements involve security. Among the security measures are special cards employees use to gain entrance into the building and panic buttons are installed in the event of an emergency.

The Convention Center and east parking lot are scheduled to open in early 2018.

A tour of City Hall and the Police Department can be arranged during business hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-4:30 pm, by calling Steven Perry at 302-227-6181.

The City Hall project generated controversy, due to its $20 million-plus price tag in a city that has fewer than 1,500 full-time residents.

The population does swell into the thousands in summer months as part-time residents and vacationers spent more time in the community.
