The Newark Post is reporting that the former site of a garden center is slated to become a medical marijuana dispensary and grow center.
According to the Post, the former Alexander’s Lawn and Garden Center on Ogletown Road is the location, based on building permit information.
It was disclosed last week that the state Department of Health and Social Services quietly awarded a contract to a nonprofit organization tied to the medical marijuana industry in New Jersey and Colorado.
A site was not disclosed by either the successful bidder or the stae.

Demand for medical marijuana is expected to grow as doctors gain more latitude in writing prescriptions.
The Legislature passed a bill that allows physicians other than psychiatrists to write prescriptions for cases of traumatic stress syndrome and other conditions faced by returning veterans and others.
The Alexander’s site would be the second in northern New Castle County. The other location is the First State Compassion Center on Germay Drive, near Wilmington.
