Northern Delaware will  be temporarily without a Chili’s Grill & Bar restaurant.

A location on Concord Pike, next to the now-closed Romano’s Macaroni Grill, closed last week with its listing removed from the company’s website.

A spokesperson for parent company Brinker International issued the following statement:

“I can confirm Chili’s restaurant located on 4147 Concord Pike closed on August 7, 2017. We constantly review the performance of our restaurants and from time to time will make the tough decision to close a location based on evaluative criteria. We are very grateful to our team Members and the loyal guests of Wilmington who visited this restaurant over the past couple years.

A Chili’s is under construction at the Christiana Fashion Center near the mall. Another location remains open near the Delaware line on the east end of Elkton, MD. The Brinker spokesperson confirmed that the Fashion Center location will open in the fall.

Chili’s earlier closed a restaurant near Delaware Park and the Delaware Tech Stanton campus. The building was gutted and became a Greene Turtle location.

Previously, a Romano’s Macaroni Grill, next door to the Chili’s closed. Brinker, the parent company of Chili’s formerly owned Romano’s, but sold the company.

Chili’s has struggled with an aging concept and a menu that features Tex Mex-style items as well as hamburgers and barbecue ribs.

Of late, the company has been running advertisements that harken back to its founding in the 1970s and tout  the  fun-filled atmosphere of a local gathering place.

Chili’s recently announced plans to simplify its menu and in some cases increase portion sizes. The chain has about 1,600 restaurants.

Earnings for Chili’s came in ahead of forecasts, although the company did see a drop in revenues.

In addition to the Chili’s and Romano’s closings, Concord Pike has seen the shuttering of a Lone Star location in recent months. That site will be converted into a Greene Turtle.
