Joint work by the Delaware Department of Insurance and Delaware Department of Justice led to the indictment of Dr. Karl McIntosh on 14 felony counts including theft, health care fraud, insurance fraud and identity theft.
McIntosh, 53, a Wilmington psychiatrist, was indicted by a New Castle County grand jury following a year-long joint investigation by the DOI Fraud Prevention Unit and the DOJ Investor Protection Unit.
The indictment alleges that over a period spanning more than three years, McIntosh submitted insurance claims for office visits that did not take place, resulting in him improperly receiving over $100,000 of insurance reimbursements.
The indictment alleges the McIntosh used his patients’ personal identifying information without their consent.
Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro stated, “The fraud unit of the Department takes these cases seriously and actively investigates all reported cases of fraud. We work closely with our partners at the Department of Justice to see these cases through protecting consumers. A case such as this brings to light that insurance fraud costs everyone.”
