Delaware-based El Diablo Burritos opened its fourth location in Pike Creek in the Shops at Limestone Hills. The locally owned restaurant opened on July 7.
It’s the first new store for the seven-year-old chain, since the 2015 opening of a location on Main Street in Newark.
El Diablo specializes in hand-crafted burritos and tacos, as well as burrito bowls and salads.
The restaurant and carryout spot has other locations in Trolley Square, Wilmington and Branmar Plaza in north Wilmington.
El Diablo gets high ratings on sites, such as Yelp and TripAdvisor for its variety of fresh ingredients.
Newark is still seeing a burrito battle. National giant Chipotle opened with much fanfare several years ago.
Newark also has a California Tortilla, Qdoba and Santa Fe Mexican Grill. Santa Fe had a burrito and taco counter prior to the opening of Chipotle.
Santa Fe is also part of a small restaurant group that also operates Del Pez, a Latin restaurant on Main Street.
El Diablo has been able to go toe to toe with Chipotle when it comes to creating buzz, thanks in part to a loyal customer base well as well a wider variety of ingredients.
