UDairy to open store on Market Street in Wilmington
The UDairy Creamery will open a store in Wilmington in May.
The University of Delaware enterprise will open a store at 815 Market St. in downtown. An exact date has not been determined.
UDairy has a location on South College Avenue on the UD campus that is open year around. It also operates a truck that’s a common sight at local events and food truck gatherings. The truck operates in cooperation with the UD Horn Programin Entrepreneurship.
The enterprise was launched about nine years ago at the urging of students in the UD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Students wanted a way to broaden their experience in food-related businesses.
UDairy uses milk from the university’s dairy herd, which is shipped to Cumberland Farms in the town of the same name in New Jersey and sent back as an ice cream base. In Newark, the ice cream is flavored, frozen and packaged by UD student employees.
Restaurant and brewpub owner Iron Hill offers UDairy ice cream at its 12 locations. The ice cream is also available at UD dining halls and other locations.
