Dogfish Head Craft Brewery was ranked as the 14th largest craft brewer in the nation, according to the annual list from the Brewers Association.

The Milton-based brewery also ranked in the top 25 brewing companies.

Dogfish Head has remained in the top 15 tier for a number of years. Unlike some of is larger competitors, Dogfish Head has not added breweries and has only gradually expanded its sales territory. The brewer has a presence in the nation’s  most populated states,  including  California and Texas.

Competition has intensified in the craft brewing space, with Dogfish Head beefing up its marketing presence and adding a canning line at its lone brewery.  Dogfish also has a  private equity partner that owns a minority stake in the company.

“With such a broad range of brewers in today’s beer landscape, the leading small and independent producers have helped build the craft brewing industry to what it is today,” said Bart Watson, chief economist, Brewers Association. “Embracing their experience and ability to thrive and overcome challenges, the top producing craft brewers will continue to inspire, innovate and influence the future of beer.”

The Brewers Association  is a  not-for-profit trade group representing craft brewers.
