WSFS Financial Corporation announced that David W. Mills has joined WSFS Bank as Senior Vice President, Relationship Manager in the Middle Market Division and Lisa A. Chorlton has joined WSFS as a Senior Vice President in WSFS’ Wealth Management group.

Mills brings with him 33 years of experience in commercial banking, along with a strong familiarity with the Delaware Valley. He started his career as a Relationship Manager at Meridian Bank and successors CoreStates Bank, First Union and Wachovia Bank, where he worked until 2003. David then began working at M&T Bank in Philadelphia where he served in the role of Group Manager for Commercial Banking, until joining WSFS Bank.

He a graduate of Lehigh University, where he received his Bachelors of Science in Finance, with a concentration in Accounting. He also graduated with honors from the Central Atlantic School of Commercial Lending. In 2016, Philly Biz Magazine named David one of the “Power 50,” recognizing him as one of the most influential business professionals in Philadelphia.

He is a member of the Union League of Philadelphia, the Association for Corporate Growth – Philadelphia Chapter and the Lake Naomi Club in the Poconos. Mills enjoys contributing to a variety of charitable organizations and serves as a board member for Philadelphia Council for Community Development, CADE Kids, VNA Community Services and Maple Corporation.

Chorlton brings with her 18 years of experience in financial services, specializing in relationships with clients in the affluent market segment. Prior to joining WSFS, she held positions with a number of Delaware financial institutions including Wilmington Trust and J.P. Morgan Private Bank. Most recently, she acted as Senior Vice President and Senior Banking Advisor at PNC Wealth Management.

Bancroft Construction promotions

Bancroft Construction Company announced the promotion of Larry Carroll to Field Operations Manager and Wayne Ruesswick to Lead MEP Resource.

Carroll has over 20 years’ experience as a Superintendent in the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, including coordinating activities of many trades.  He joined Bancroft in the Patriot Government Services, Inc. division in August 2014.  Some notable projects he has completed at the Wilmington VA Medical Center are: NFS Kitchen Renovation, 8 East and West Renovation, Flooring Replacement, and Sprinkler Corrections.

In his new role, Carroll will be responsible for identifying risks, eliminating inefficiencies, and assisting the Project Teams with identifying and solving problems and strengthening policies across Bancroft to increase overall consistency. He will also serve as the Sr. Superintendent of the Christiana Care Health System employee parking garage expansion at their Wilmington location.

Ruesswick has been serving in this capacity for quite some time, we discovered an oversight in communicating this well-deserved promotion to the company. 

He joined Bancroft in August 2004 and has worked on countless successful projects during his nearly 13 years with us.  Immediately upon joining Bancroft, his talents as an MEP resource quickly became evident.  In addition to readily sharing his knowledge and talents with his colleagues at Grant Avenue, he recently lent a much appreciated helping hand to the BMS team on the B9 Cell Molecular Biologics Project.  Currently, the Longwood Gardens’ staff and Main Fountain Garden Revitalization design teams are repeatedly leveraging his expertise with immeasurable success.

Nemours names engagement director

Nemours Children’s Health System welcomed Michelle Shorter as Director of Community Engagement. In this new role, she will provide strategic management and integration of community engagement activities in Delaware as well as the Delaware Valley. She will be responsible for developing and directing community engagement strategies and fostering relationships with external stakeholders in targeted areas. 

Prior to her arrival at Nemours, Shorter spent more than 15 years at Bank of America (previously MBNA) working across a variety of departments including Risk, Lending, Policy, and Fraud. She established a well-regarded reputation within the organization for furthering diversity and inclusion, and she has held multiple leadership positions in community organizations.

For the past three years, she has served as the Associate Vice President and Chief Risk Officer at Delaware State University where she created a campus-wide risk program that increased risk awareness among faculty, staff and students, and strengthened the University’s external partnerships.

 Shorter has Bachelor and Master’s degrees, both from Pennsylvania State University, and is Six Sigma certified. She is currently writing her dissertation for her doctorate degree and serves as a board member for the Maternal & Child Health Consortium and for the University of Delaware Black Alumni Association.

Delaware Botanic Gardens elects board membes

Raymond J. Sander was elected president of the Delaware Botanic Gardens at the March meeting of the organization’s board of directors. Susan Ryan, who led the group as president for nearly two years, passed the baton to Sander, who was serving as vice president and manager of the new garden’s construction contracts.

Sander announced that “a few of our stalwart board members have also justifiably asked to be relieved of their responsibilities. DBG says farewell to two board members who have contributed to many of our recent accomplishments. As treasurer, David Green has taken DBG from managing its finances in a checkbook to a fully automated accounting system managed by a professional accounting firm. He has overseen the CPA firm that has reviewed our financial records for two succeeding cycles.” The new president also noted that Diane Maddex, DBG’s webmaster, editor, and graphic designer, “recreated

1 the DBG web site as an inspirational presentation of our project. Her creativity and long experience in the publishing industry have also been reflected in DBG’s publications.”

At the same time, the DBG board has welcomed several new and talented leaders. Rich Weissmann was elected DBG treasurer, as an officer of the corporation. He is a retired CPA and a former corporate vice president of internal audit.

Two new board members were also elected: Bob Batley and Carol McCloud.

Batley is vice president of marketing and business development at Bancroft Construction Company and has wide experience in executive leadership, customer service, and strategic planning, in addition to serving on various boards and community committees.

McCloud, who has a background in payroll and benefits and implementation of computer software programs, is currently president of one of the area’s most successful garden clubs, the Barefoot Gardeners in Fenwick Island. She has also been one of DBG’s most dedicated volunteers.

Beebe directors announced

The Beebe Healthcare Board of Directors announces the addition of Christopher J. Weeks and Paul Townsend.

 Weeks holds a degree in architecture and for the past decade has served as the Business Development Manager for Becker Morgan Group.

 He has served as the Director of the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary, the First State Military Academy, and is Director of Sussex Economic Development Action Committee. He is as a member of the Finance Committee for Beebe Healthcare.

Townsend is the President of J.G. Townsend, Jr. & Co. and Townsend Frozen Foods  in Georgetown. For the past 30 years, he has worked as a Realtor with Jack Lingo Realtors, specializing in land development.

He holds a business degree from University of Delaware. He is President of the Wolfe Pointe Homeowner’s Association, and a managing member of LT Associates.

Barrish joins WHYY

WHYY recently expanded its Delaware team to include Cris Barrish. Barrish, who joins WHYY as an education reporter in the Delaware bureau. He left the News Journal in 2015 . He was the lead author of “Fatal Embrace,’’ a true crime book published by St. Martin’s Press and reissued as a True Crime Classic.

Barrish most recently was Director of Strategic Development for Connections Community Support Programs, Inc., a nonprofit social services and health care organization.

Long & Foster  earns designation

Dennis Mather, a sales associate with Long & Foster Real Estate’s Bethany Beach, Delaware, office, has earned the Certified Residential Specialist designation.

Awarded by the Council of Residential Specialists, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, the CRS designation recognizes that Mather is an expert in working within the residential market using a variety of proven tools such as networking to deliver the highest quality and professional service possible to today’s homebuyers and sellers. 

Mather has a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University, and is a member of Towson University’s board of visitors and its athletes’ advisory board. He also holds an MBA from University of Baltimore.

2 join Patterson-Schwartz

Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate welcomed Dan Roberts to their Newark office sales team. Roberts, who has his bachelor’s degree in finance and holds an MBA, is an investment manager with his Delaware real estate license. He a member of the New Castle County Board of Realtors.
