Philadelphia International Airport has announced additional flights from Alaska Airlines and Frontier Airlines.

Alaska Airlines will begin non-stop service between Philadelphia and San Francisco in late summer. Frontier will offer late night and early morning flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The daily flights will launch with a red-eye departing San Francisco at 10:35 p.m. on August 31 and arriving in Philadelphia at 7 a.m. the following morning.

The first Alaska departure to San Francisco is 8:15 a.m. on September 1.

San Francisco will be the third destination served nonstop from Philadelphia by Alaska, which also operates daily service to its home base in Seattle and will begin seasonal summer service to Portland, OR in May.

Philadelphia lost San Francisco and Los Angeles service when Virgin America pulled out. Alaska has since bought Virgin America and  plans to retire the brand.  Both airlines have high rates customer satisfaction ratings.

“This is terrific news for travelers in the Philadelphia region,” said Airport CEO Chellie Cameron. “We are very excited that Alaska is adding non-stop service between two great cities to its expanding network. Alaska Airlines has been well received here and we look forward to even more direct service on Alaska.”

Frontier will begin non-stop flights between Philadelphia and San Juan in June. It will be the 20th destination from Philadelphia for Frontier.

American also offers nonstop flights to San Juan.

Frontier returned to Philadelphia after a brief stint at New Castle Airport and offers a mix of year-around and seasonal flights.

The airline, on a seasonal basis, offers the only non-stop service from Philadelphia to San Antonio and Punta Gorda, FL.

Frontier typically offers service a few days a week from Philadelphia. The carrier charges for luggage and other services, but offers low base fares.
