[Not a valid template]The Technology Forum of Delaware members and friends toured the  DTP@STAR  business complex in Newark on Wednesday.

The name is derived from the expansion of the Delaware Technology Park to the STAR Campus, the former site of the Chrysler plant. DTP@STAR houses start-up companies and has a “wet lab” that is being used to develop new technology.

A dozen companies now have offices in DTP@STAR.

The tour comes as work gets under way on a 10-story addition to  the STAR Campus.

Michael Bowman, associate director of  Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships at the University of Delaware and president of the Technology Park,  said work is under way on a 10-story addition.

Bowman said the Delaware Technology Park off Route 72 near Newark has run out of room, prompting an effort to expand to the STAR Campus.

Bowman said the STAR Campus is a busy place with a large health component that includes the College of Health Sciences as well as the nationally known GoBabyGo program that provides mobility for disabled children through modified riding vehicles.

The university’s nationally known physical therapy department also offers services for area patients, with Christiana Care operating a walk-in clinic.

Bowman noted that technology company SevOne employs 400 at the STAR campus. Fuel cell maker Bloom Energy also has manufacturing operations on the STAR campus.

Developer of the first phase of the STAR Campus is Delle Donne Associates. Contractor is Bancroft Construction.

Next month, Tech Forum  will hold its  4th Annual Idea Challenge – this year as part of The Open Data Challenge – a partnership with the State of Delaware’s Government Information Center and Open Data DelawareThe Open Data Challenge will help to build tangible, sustainable solutions for community issues using innovation and data from the state’s new Open Data Portal.
