The Limited, which operated a store in Christiana Mall, has closed its doors.

The retailer, which rode the wave of mall expansion in the 1970s, featured women’s clothing, including a line from TV star Eva Longoria.

At its peak, the company was known for putting the equivalent of a  department store in a mall, with chains such as Express, Victoria’s Secret and Lane Bryant. Victoria’s Secret went on to become the largest of those brands.

The number of stores of The Limited reached a peak of more than 700, but at the time of closing had shrunk to 250.

The Limited itself was owned by a private equity firm after being spun off by its Columbus, Ohio-based parent company that continues to own Victoria’s  Secret and other stores.

The Limited,  like many fashion retailers that have closed their doors, will have an online operation, although the company noted that all sales online were final.

The closing climaxed a rough week in retailing, with Sears Holdings and Macy’s closing stores.

Delaware escaped that wave of closings until the Limited shutdown.
