Shake Shack opens in Christiana Fashion Center

Shake Shack has quietly opened its doors at the Christiana Fashion Center.

Word of the opening of the fast-growing upscale burger chain got around, and the line was out the door at noon on Wednesday. Seating was available.inside.

The chain has generated buzz out of proportion to its size,  thanks to its original locations in New York City that still see long lines at various times.

The publicly traded company now has corporate-owned restaurants from coast to coast and overseas.

The location, the first for Shake Shack in Delaware,  is now listed on the company’s website. The opening should push Shake Shack past the 100-location figure.

The newest Shake Shack has a local touch with a  New Castle “Concrete” ice cream offering with custard and other ingredients.  Five percent of the sales of the Concrete go to the Food Bank of Delaware.

Shake Shack offers burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries and related  items at a price point that is slightly above the figure for Five Guys, which has some locations in Delaware.

The burgers also have some resemblance to the offerings of the locally founded Wayback chain, formerly Jake’s.

Five Guys is often ranked alongside Shake Shack in listings of the tastiest burgers.

Other restaurant offerings at the Fashion Center, which is adjacent to Christiana Mall, include Zoup!, Zoe’s Kitchen and Ted’s Montana Grill.
