screen-shot-2016-11-14-at-6-15-56-pmUsually, news of a restaurant opening comes after months of speculation.

This time around, Scalessa’s Old School Italian Kitchen quietly opened on Lincoln Street in the 40 Acres neighborhood,  not that long  after the first Email alert on the new venture by owner Don  Scalessa.

The restaurant, at the former site of a breakfast-lunch spot,  will offer a modest menu of breakfast and lunch items in the early going, with customers asked to call for a “verbal” dinner menu.”

Items listed on an Email blast include chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe, meatball parmigiana, cheesesteaks, breakfast sandwiches, porketta with broccoli rabe and hamburgers, all at low prices.

Scalessa operated a restaurant on Green Hill Avenue two different times before closing in a few years back.

A comeback always seemed to be in the cards as Scalessa kept the restaurant’s website in operation. The site has not been updated to reflect the new location and  menu.

The previous restaurant was based  on  Montorano’s   in Fort Lauderdale. The South Philly-inspired restaurant now has other locations in Las Vegas and  Atlantic City.

The centerpiece of  both establishments was  a large meatball that earned widespread praise.  The new Scalessa’s also  featureds a photo of the meatball salad  on a social media post.

Hours in Wilmington are  Monday through Thursday from  8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.,  and until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The phone number is 302-656-1362.

Further information is available on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
