Newark PDSeveral officers in the Newark Police Department are putting away their razors to help those in need. The Department launched its third annual “Full Beards, Full Bellies” campaign to raise money and collect food donations to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware. Last year, more than $2,400 was raised, and 173 pounds of food were collected.

“Our officers join the Department because they have a desire to serve their community and help their neighbors,” said Chief Paul Tiernan. “This campaign shows that desire goes beyond working hours and we hope it encourages others in the community to join in to support those in need.”

The campaign runs the entire month of November. Officers who wish to participate must raise $100 in money or food donations. Newark residents can support the campaign by donating non-perishable food items, which can be dropped off in collection barrels located in the lobby of the City of Newark municipal building. Monetary donations can be made directly to the Food Bank through their web page, www.fbd.org.

“We are thankful for the continued support of the Newark Police Department’s Full Beards, Full Bellies campaign,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “We love the enthusiasm of the officers as they work to not only raise much-needed food and funds but also work to build awareness of the issue of hunger in Delaware. We are also grateful for the service of the department as they put their lives on the line each and every day to keep our community safe.”
