MarkellGovernor Jack  Markell, serving as the 2016 President of The Council of State Governments (CSG), is leading a group to India this  week as part of the organization’s work to support and improve policies pursued by state administrations and legislatures.

The trip includes visits with India public officials, such as the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra, and participation in the U.S.-India Business Council 8th Annual Legal Services Conference, at which Markell will provide remarks.

“As one of the country’s best organization for bringing together state and local leaders to share ideas and advocate for shared national priorities, CSG has an important role to play in figuring out the most effective ways to overcome our challenges,” said Markell. “In an increasingly connected world, these efforts must include engaging with international leaders about the keys for success in the global economy. I’m looking forward to sharing ideas with, and learning from, business and government leaders in our world’s largest democracy, and I’m sure these conversations will improve CSG’s advocacy on behalf of all our communities.”

Founded in 1933, The Council of State Governments is our nation’s only organization serving all three branches of state government. CSG is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy.

The council is funding the Governor’s travel. Markell will spend just over a week traveling with the delegation across the country.
