WSFS promotes three to senior vice president

WSFS Financial Corporation announced the promotion of Vernita L. Dorsey, Robert J. Hayman and Jason L. Spence to Senior Vice President.

Dorsey has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Director of Community Strategy. Dorsey has over 30 years of banking experience; she joined WSFS in 2010 when the Bank combined with Christiana Bank & Trust.

As the Director of Community Strategy, Dorsey oversees Corporate Philanthropy for the company and leads the bank’s volunteer initiatives through Team WSFS. In addition, she serves as Secretary of the WSFS Foundation Board.

Hayman has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Director of Facility Strategy and Vendor Management. Hayman joined the Bank in January 2012.

In his role, he directs all vendor management functions, corporate insurance policies, facility operations and procurement.

Hayman has over 35 years of experience in the financial services industry; he was a senior leader at MBNA America for 15 years and prior to joining WSFS, he held a leadership role with Wilmington Trust Company.

Spence has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Director of Credit Risk Management. Spence joined WSFS Bank in 2006. In his current role, Spence leads many of the Bank’s loan administration and credit risk functions, including asset quality & concentration reporting, allowance for loan & lease losses, valuation services & construction loan monitoring as well as the loan review function. Spence has over 20 years of banking experience and prior to joining WSFS, he served in several management roles during a 13-year career at MBNA America.

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. (BLS), announces the following promotions.

Stephanie L. Chapman, CPA has been promoted to the position of Principal of the Firm and has been with BLS for over 7 years.Stephanie joined the BLS family in May of 2009. She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees in Accounting from the University of West Florida.

Michael D. Kelly, CPA has been promoted to Manager in the firm’s Tax & Small Business Department.In his 8 years with BLS, He received both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware. He continued his education and received a Masters in Taxation Degree from Villanova University. Michael resides in Wilmington, Delaware.

Karly A. Laughlin, CPA has been promoted to Manager in the Tax & Small Business Department. She has been with BLS for 7 years. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware and resides in Landenberg, Pennsylvania.

Michael E. Mast, CPA, CFE has been promoted to Manager in the Accounting & Auditing Department.He has been with BLS for 9 years. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware and resides in Newark, Delaware.

Gunnip & Company announces additions

Gunnip & Company CPAs, announced the following additions to its accounting and auditing team.

Steven Cwiakala graduated from West Chester University with a B.S. in Accounting. Scott Scherer is a recent graduate of St Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, also with a B.S. in Accounting. They will provide auditing, accounting and tax preparation services to a variety of our clients.

Partnership for the Delaware Estuary staff additions

Emily Baumbach has joined the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary as a science planning specialist. Her chief responsibility is to collect and report information for compliance with the National Estuary Program.

Baumbach earned her master’s degree in environmental policy and sustainability management from The New School in New York City. Her master’s thesis focused on “nature-deficit disorder,” or the importance of educational outdoor experiences. She also earned two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Delaware; one in natural resource management and another in agriculture.

Baumbach previously worked for the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. There she served as an environmental program coordinator at Cape Henlopen State Park. She has also worked as a lab assistant at the Stroud Water Research Center and as a research assistant at the University of Delaware’s Water Resources Agency.

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary has promoted Kaitlin Collins to watershed planning specialist. In this role, she works with communities and partners in New Jersey on projects to improve water quality and coastal resilience.

Collins earned a master’s degree in marine studies at the University of Delaware. There she researched the services that wetlands provide, like removing carbon from the air and excess nutrients from the soil. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in marine science from North Carolina State University. This includes minors in both environmental science and geology.

Kate Hutelmyer joined the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary as its senior watersheds coordinator. In this role she leads collaborative efforts to make water cleaner in communities throughout Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Previously, Hutelmyer worked for the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association in central New Jersey. She served as the program coordinator for its Watershed Institute, which provides technical and financial assistance to environmental nonprofits throughout the state.

Hutelmyer holds a master’s degree in water science and policy and a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, both from the University of Delaware.

Ryan joins Beebe Medical Group

Nicole Ryan, MD, Board Certified in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology, and Board Certified in Epilepsy, has joined Beebe Medical Group.

Prior to coming to Beebe, Ryan completed her residency training in child neurology and fellowship training in pediatric epilepsy at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She spent six years as an attending physician and Assistant Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania, treating pediatric neurology patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

She completed her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Cornell University.

Delmarva Poultry board member named

Dean Walston, a Salisbury, MDnative, has been chosen by the Board of Directors of Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. as DPI’s president, effective January 2017.

Walston, is director of operations for Perdue Farms’s Milford, Delaware Processing Facility, a no antibiotics ever organic chicken harvest facility. There, he oversees the leadership team. First hired by Perdue in 1987, his past roles in the company included positions as a grow out manager and a live production manager, as well as stints as a plant manager in Showell, Maryland and Georgetown, Delaware.

Walston received a bachelor’s degree in poultry science and food science from North Carolina State University

Atkins joins Soybean board

Cory Atkins of Seaford, DE., has been appointed to the United Soybean Board. He is one of 39 new appointees who will join 34 other farmer-leaders in directing soy checkoff funds toward research, marketing and promotion efforts that increase soybean farmer profitability. Atkins will succeed Dallas Wright of Millsboro in the position at his swearing-in during December.

Atkins is a director on theDelaware Soybean Board. A former LEADelaware fellow, he was introduced to the soybean checkoff through USB’s See for Yourself tour in 2012. After attending the National Biodiesel Board (NBB)’s Big Apple Bioheat Tour he became NBB director for the Mid-Atlantic Soybean Boards’ membership.

He is a 2015 graduate of Syngenta’s “Leadership At Its Best” program.

Atkins owns and operates Cory’s Produce, LLC., growing crops including squash, watermelons, lima beans, peas, sweet corn, field corn, soybeans and small grains. In addition, Atkins contracts for custom farming and grain hauling. He also is a Channel seed dealer.

Dallas Wright will continue to serve as alternate USB director. Wright, a longtime soybean leader, is a former Delaware Soybean Board director. Wright was a longtime member of the board of directors of the Mid-Atlantic Soybean Association. He also is a member of the Delaware Farm Burea

SVN- Miller’s Tilghman promoted

Miller Commercial Real Estate Senior Advisor and Property Manager Rick Tilghman, CCIM has been promoted to Director of Property Management.

He has worked with SVN-Miller since 2004; starting as an Advisor specializing in leasing and most recently working as the Director of Business Development.

For the past two years Tilghman has focused on growing the property management division through business development and has increased the square footage under management by nearly 500,000 square feet. As Director of Property Management, he will be responsible for recruiting, training and developing team members with the talent and values necessary to match our mission and culture.

Tilghman holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, and is a Certified Property Manager (CPM) Candidate with plans to receive the designation in early 2017.

Berkshire Hathaway adds associate

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, Realtors Newark Office, welcomed Sarah Rodek as a Sales Associate. Rodek has a background in business management. She is a member of the New Castle County Board of Realtors.
