The steel framework is going up on a restaurant building believed to be the location of the New Shake Shack.

The fast-growing  Shake Shack chain is coming to Christiana Fashion Center.

The Fashion Center is a free-standing “lifestyle center”  near Christiana Mall.

“I am happy to report that we are opening in Christiana, DE in early 2017,” said Laura Enoch, director of Brand  & Regional Marketing and Communications. for Shake Shack. Enoch added in an Email message that no further details were  available on the location.

Work is underway in a free-standing building that is believed to be the site of the restaurant that will offer burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches,  hot dogs,  shakes and custard. Shake Shacks also sell craft beer and wine at some locations. Delaware’s liquor laws would seem to make beer and wine an attractive  option for the new restaurant.

Update: Marshalls/Homegoods open as retailers flock to Fashion Center

The company has been advertising openings for managers for the Christiana location on the GlassDoor website.

Shake Shack is often mentioned as a rival of  Virginia-based Five Guys, which operates 700 restaurants that include locations in Delaware. Five Guys offers a limited menu of hamburgers, hotdogs and soft drinks. Other rivals that are mentioned alongside Shake Shack are Smash Burger and West Coast chain In-N-Out.

Shake Shack got its start at a park in New York City  through well-known restaurateur, Danny Meyer, known for a group of New York City restaurants that include Union Square Cafe and Gramercy Tavern.  Shake Shack opened its 100th store in Boston in August. It now operates in 15 states and the District of Columbia. Locations have also opened overseas.

Growth prospects for Shack Shack have pushed the value of its  stock to more than $1 billion, or about $10 million per restaurant. Meyer owns a large chunk of stock in the company.

Shake Shack  has opened locations in many popular city locations in New York,  Philadelphia Chicago, and Washington, D.C. The company has two locations in Philadelphia and two in the King of Prussia area.

Shake Shack, a  publicly traded company, unlike other restaurant chains, does not offer franchises.

Shake Shack will join other restaurants at the center including  Zoup!, Zoe’s Kitchen and Ted’s Montana Grill. Ted’s Montana Grill is slated to open next month.

A sketch from Allied Retail Properties also shows a location for Chili’s, a large restaurant chain that earlier closed a location near Delaware Park.  Work is underway on a location for the fast-growing  Greene Turtle sports bar chain at the former Chili’s site.
