Saint Francis Healthcare is now offering same-day, next-day and evening 3D mammography appointments at Saint Francis Hospital, located at 701 N. Clayton Street, Wilmington.
“Early detection is paramount when it comes to fighting breast cancer,” said Dr. Erev Tubb, chief hematologist, and medical oncologist at Saint Francis Healthcare. “3D mammography directly influences our ability to detect and treat cancer early. The earlier you catch it. Generally, the less treatment you have to go through.”
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime (National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., 2015). Though these numbers are high, according to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, if breast cancer is diagnosed early and treated before it spreads, the five-year survival rate is 99 percent.
A 3D mammography appointment begins with an X-ray arm that sweeps over the breast and takes multiple images at various angled, a process that lasts only a few seconds.
