The use of drones for news purposes is growing, but still comes with regulatory uncertainties and concerns about injuries and interfering with events.

The on-board apparatus and tether allow  the drone to fly laterally up to 2,000 feet from any one location; the base and tether enable the pilot to instantly stop and retrieve at variable speeds while maintaining smooth control.

“We offer the mark of the professional drone journalist because our system addresses public concerns first: Who is flying that drone near me? What are they doing? What if the drone is hacked and used as a weapon? Software glitches? Radio telemetry failures? Pilot errors? How will the pilot stop a rogue drone that can fly out of control at 50 feet per second and faster?” said Mark A. Ryan, founder and CEO. “With Ryan Media Lab’s tethered drone flight control system, businesses and public agencies can take advantage of the low-cost versatility of drones while knowing it has the safety benefit of constant, physical control over the aircraft from the ground.”
