Scalessa’s to return to dining scene

After two stints on Greenhill Avenue in Wilmington  Scalessa’s  is planning a return to the dining scene.neighborhood.

A sign announcing the restaurant   went  up at a vacant building at 1836 North Lincoln St. The location is also near Trolley Square.

The sign indicated the restaurant will be known as Scalessa’s Old School Italian Kitchen.

The location was the home of Mary’s, a breakfast spot.

Scalessa’s operated from 2002 to 2011, closed for a  time, reopened and later  shut its doors.

An Email message to Scalessa’s customers earlier this year  indicated that a restaurant was in the works.

Owner Donnie Scalessa stated that  the restaurant was inspired by Martarano’s,  a group of restaurants started by a Philadelphia native. Restaurants  operate  in Fort  Lauderdale, FL;  Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Scalessa’s and Martarano’s  offer “red gravy” Italian food   and feature  a  popular meatball appetizer.

Late nights feature a DJ and dancing..

Zoup opening next month

Zoup, the quick service comfort food spot, is planning to open on Nov 17 at the Christiana Fashion Center, next to the mall.

It’s the second location for Zoup, which found success at its original location at Midway Plaza Shopping Center, at Limestone Road and Kirkwood Highway.

Franchisee is Eric Ames has one of the top performing stores in the mid-sized chain.

Primo’s  store reopens

The owner of the Kirkwood Highway Primo’s Hoagies location  has reopened a Bear location in the Governor’s Square Shopping Center off Route 40. The store had been closed for several months.

Primo’s has been shrinking with the Newark Main Street  location closing its doors.

Primo’s offers high-end ingredients for its hoagies and prices can be on the expensive side when compared to your corner pizza place.

Berri Yummi yogurt closes Pike Creek store

The Chen family  decided to close the store, effective last Sunday,  after the end of its five-year lease.

The successful  Naamans Road  store will remain open.

Lyman Chen remains  a busy guy, juggling  a real estate business and an acting career.

Serpe’s returns today

 The  landmark bakery in Elsmere  reopens  today after a tragic fire on Christmas Eve, in time for those holiday pies, cookies and cannolis.
