The Medical Society of Delaware and the Delaware Medical Education Foundation, Ltd., (DMEF) announced that DMEF has been awarded a grant from The Physicians Foundation for $149,649 to be used in the newly established Physician Leadership Series.
The purpose of the grant is to support the development and implementation of a 12-week online program flexible enough for the busiest physician by providing 24-hour access to self-paced online programming and two in-person sessions.
The “Excellence in Physician Leadership Series” leads to a Medical Society of Delaware certificate in Physician Leadership Development. Multiple cohorts will run October 31, 2016 through May 2, 2018.
The Physician Leadership Series has been created to enhance one’s knowledge of specific leadership skills and competencies in a new era of health care and to gain individual insights and skills necessary to be more effective in their community, their profession, and their personal lives.
While some attendees may have had prior education on leadership skills, the goal of this program is to ensure that all learners have enhanced awareness of the changing dynamics in the health care industry, evolution of physician leadership competencies, to gain and apply insights/skills that will enhance their effectiveness as leaders and team members, a release stated.
Delaware has no specific physician leadership development programs to empower physicians to be leaders in the delivery of health care.
The Delaware Medical Education Foundation will conduct a needs assessment regarding effective leadership topics and areas of weakness that need to be addressed.
The results of the needs assessment will cultivate into the development of a quarterly Leadership Summit.
