Belfint, Lyons & Shuman announces licenses, certifications

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. announced the following licenses and certifications that have been received throughout 2016.

Anne Mary Kluska, CPA, CVA received the Certified Valuation Analyst designation. She is a Principal in the firm’s Tax & Small Business department and celebrated her 14th anniversary with BLS in September. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Drexel University.

Jonathan A. Patterson, CPA, CVA received the Certified Valuation Analyst designation. He is a Manager in the firm’s Tax & Small Business department and celebrated his 8th anniversary with BLS in January. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

 Michael E. Mast, CPA, CFE received the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification.  He is a Supervisor in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing department and celebrated his 9th anniversary with BLS in June. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

 Maria Hurd, CPA received the AICPA Advanced Defined Contribution Plans Audit Certification and the QKA (Qualified 401(k) Administrator) credential, which is given by the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). She is a Director/Shareholder of the Employee Benefit Plan Section within the Accounting & Auditing department and celebrated her 22nd anniversary with BLS in January. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and International Management from Georgetown University.

Chris Ciminera, CPA, QKA received the AICPA Advanced Defined Contribution Plans Audit Certification and the QKA (Qualified 401(k) Administrator) credential, which is given by the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). He is a Manager of the Employee Benefit Plan Section within the Accounting & Auditing department and celebrated his 10th anniversary with BLS in January. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from West Chester University.

Stacey Snyder, CPA, QKA, TGPC received the AICPA Advanced Defined Contribution Plans Audit Certification. She is a Senior Accountant in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing department specializing in the Employee Benefit Plan Audit Section and celebrated her 4th anniversary with BLS in June. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Widener University and a Master of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

Saaib Uppal, CPA received the AICPA Advanced Defined Contribution Plans Audit Certification.  He is a Senior Accountant in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing department where he assists the Employee Benefit Plan Audit Section and celebrated his 5th anniversary with BLS in June. He has a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

Casey Hagy, CPA received the AICPA Not-for-Profit Certificate: Core Concepts.  She is a Senior Accountant in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing department specializing in nonprofit audits and celebrated her 4th anniversary with BLS in June. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Cedarville University.

 Santora CPA Group announces additions

Santora CPA Group announced that Melanie B. Pokorny and Leo Stahl, Esq. have joined the firm as Staff Accountants.  Pokorny is a graduate of Philadelphia University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Stahl is a graduate of West Chester University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Widener University Delaware Law School with a Juris Doctor Degree.  Both will be providing auditing, accounting, and a variety of tax preparation services to the firm’s clients.

Widener University

Widener University President Julie E. Wollman  named Professor Iva Johnson Ferrell to serve as the university’s chief diversity officer.

Ferrell is an associate legal methods professor at Widener University Delaware Law School. She joined the law school faculty in 2003. As chief diversity officer, Ferrell will assist Wollman and the entire university community in reaching diversity and inclusion goals espoused in Widener’s strategic plan.

In addition, Ferrell will join university Provost Stephen Wilhite in co-chairing Widener’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.

Wollman said Ferrell will provide leadership for one of the most important dimensions of the Widener community.

Ferrell received her B.A. in Economics from the University of Delaware in 1991, a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from Rutgers Graduate School of Management in 1994, and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1997.

Delmarva Poultry Industry

As part of its new  communications program Delmarva Poultry Industry has created a position of Communications Manager to coordinate and manage the organization’s outreach effort.   James Fisher has been hired to fill this position.

He has worked as a newspaper reporter and editor for 13 years for The Daily Times of Salisbury, Maryland, and most recently for The News Journal.

Fisher received a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College in 2002 and a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism in 2003.

Nemours Foundation names board members

The Nemours Foundation names new members to its Board of Directors.  Brian Anderson, Chairman of the Board of The Nemours Foundation, and Hugh Durden, Chairman of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust, announced the election of four new members to The Nemours Foundation Board of Directors. Joining the Board are James S. Hunt, retired EVP and Chief Financial Officer of The Walt Disney Company, Dr. Linda D. Norman, Dean of the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, Marc Probst, VP and Chief Information Officer, Intermountain Healthcare and Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, President and Dean of the Morehouse School of Medicine.

Rotating off The Nemours Foundation Board of Directors are Jack Porter, John Lord, Geoff Rogers and Dr. Leonard Berry. Porter has been affiliated with Nemours since 1970 and as a member of the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation and a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust since 1995. He served as Chairman of its Board of Managers from 1987 to 1995 and Chairman of its Board of Directors from 2005-2007.

Porter, former president of Delaware Trust, has been affiliated with Nemours since 1970 and as a member of the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation and a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust since 1995. He served as Chairman of its Board of Managers from 1987 to 1995 and Chairman of its Board of Directors from 2005-2007.

Porter,  has been affiliated with Nemours since 1970 and as a member of the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation and a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust since 1995. He served as Chairman of its Board of Managers from 1987 to 1995 and Chairman of its Board of Directors from 2005-2007.

Lord was elected a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust in July 2000 following his retirement from Bank of America and served as Chairman of the Board of Nemours for more than eight years.

Rogers an executive with a trust company in Wilmington,  joined the Nemours Board in 2015 and while leaving the Board, will be joining the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust as a Trustee.

Berry joined the Nemours Board as a Director in 2006 and is on the faculty at Mays Business School, Texas A& M University, and is a senior fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. The Leonard L. Berry Service Excellence Awards at Nemours were established with the support of his family’s generous donation to Nemours. Berry will be retiring from the Foundation Board at the end of his current term in February, 2017.
