LaShanna Frager, also of New Castle, was awarded Honorable Mention. The Easter Seals employees, who both work as DSPs as part of the day program for adults with intellectual disabilities, were nominated by their supervisors and honored at an annual event held by the Ability Network of Delaware.

“Corona is truly an advocate,” Kristi Hughes, Collins’ supervisor said. “Her planning, implementation, and relationship building with her group of participants is continual evidence of her passion for our mission and vision. Her positive attitude continuously presents an uplifting environment to both participants and co-workers alike.”

Direct Support Professionals are the people who work as direct care workers, in-home support workers, and personal attendants to ensure that people with disabilities are able to live and work more independently and in community settings. Collins, Frager and their fellow honorees were selected by an independent committee brought together in celebration of “National Direct Support Professional’s Recognition Week.”

Collins received the “Advocacy/Peer” award. This award recognizes a DSP who persistently advocates for what is best for the individual she supports, in a polite yet steadfast manner. She also maintains good working relationships and demonstrates respect for all. Frager received Honorable Mention in the “Community Excellence” category awarded to those who has distinguished herself as someone who consistently treats the person she supports with dignity and respect while working in the community with people with disabilities.

“LaShanna loves working with the people we serve. The relationship that she has established with the people we support helps them grow and become more independent when she coaches them to do things they didn’t think they could do,” Jean Paul Yohol, Program Supervisor, says. “Unlimited inspiration is LaShanna’s superpower.”
