Woman charged with thefts from Smyrna parent-teacher fund

Smyrna Police  arrested the treasurer of  for the Smyrna Parent Teacher Organization (P.T.O.) for taking funds for personal use.

Detectives  were notified in March  of suspected internal thefts.  An investigation was launched which ended in the arrest of Kellie Sullivan-Mcgovern, 39 of Smyrna earlier this month.

Investigators determined that over nearly two years ,  Sullivan-Mcgovern used a debit card issued to her in her official capacity  for unlawful and unauthorized personal purchases.

These purchases were made at a variety of locations and for many different items/services such as gas stations, liquor stores, baseball tickets, jewelry, clothing and ATM withdrawals. She now faces the following:

  • 2 counts of (felony) Theft $1,500 or greater
  • 136 counts of Unlawful use of a payment card
  •  1 count of falsifying business records

The total loss to the Smyrna P.T.O. is estimated to be  about $11,000.    Sullivan-Mcgovern was released on $7,850 unsecured bond after her arraignment pending a future court hearing.
