Battle of the Bars raises more than $22,000

 The Greene Turtle top the field at the The Friends of Newark Police K-9 held its fourth annual “Battle of the Bars” on Friday, at the Courtyard Marriott at the University of Delaware.

The event brings together  community  leaders and supporters of the Newark Police Department K-9 fund and the Downtown Newark Partnership. Over 500 local residents and customers were on hand.

This year’s event pitted eight downtown Newark restaurants against each other in the battle for bragging rights and the “Paco Cup,”  named in memory of Newark’s first K-9 officer.

Bartenders from Catherine Rooney’s, The Deer Park Tavern, Grotto, Stone Balloon, Grain, Klondike Kate’s, Green Turtle, and Taverna will compete to generate the most tips and drink sales.  This year winner was the Green Turtle Newark with a total of $6,900.

This year’s event raised over $22,000 for the Newark Police K-9 team, setting a new record.  All tips and donations support the Newark Police Department K-9 Fund.  The money raised will go towards the purchase of training, equipment, and a new K-9 dog when needed.
