St. Francis Saint Francis Healthcare has been awarded a provisional Level 3 trauma center state designation by the Delaware Health and Social Services Division of Public Health.

The designation enables Saint Francis to provide residents of Wilmington and northern New Castle County with faster, more convenient access to appropriate trauma care.

As a community Level 3 center,  Saint Francis Healthcare’s emergency personnel can now provide faster assessment, resuscitation, stabilization and necessary operations for trauma victims.

“In times of emergency situations, fast access to high-quality appropriate care is critical to ensuring the best possible outcomes,” says Dr. Seyedmehdi Jadali, M.D., trauma medical director. “Through this designation, the community can feel more confident and assured due to Saint Francis Healthcare’s ability to provide life-saving trauma care closer to home.”

Saint Francis made a multi-year investment in training, facilities and surgical and support staffing to provide patients with enhanced trauma care. Over the next 12 months, the hospital must successfully complete an American College of Surgeons site visit and be recommended for full Level 3 Trauma Center state designation by Delaware’s Trauma System Designation Committee.
