Home sales post gain in first half; median price flat in New Castle County

A report from the state’s largest residential real estate brokerage firm  took note of increased home sales in the area during the first half of 2015.

The report from Patterson-Schwartz showed  a 22.3 percent gain in sales in Cecil County, MD, with a 2.7 percent increase in the median sales price when compared to the first half of 2015.

New Castle County saw a 6.6 percent gain during the first half. On the minus side, there was no gain in the median price of homes that were sold.

Kent County saw the same 6.6 gain in first half homes sales, but saw a  4.8 percent gain in home prices when compared to the same period a year earlier.

Sussex County, which has seen a slowdown in home sales, reported a 3.1 percent increase in the number of homes sold, with a 1.2 percent increase in the median sales price.

Southern Chester County PA saw a 5.7 percent decrease in home sales in the first half, with a 3.3 percent decrease in the median sales price.

Figures in the Patterson-Schwartz came from the Multiple Listings Services serving the region.

As reported last week in Delaware Business Now, home sales in the $500,000 and up category, with strong sales in the lower-priced segments in Delaware.

Concern over cutbacks at DuPont  is believed to be a contributing factor to the sluggishness in the higher-priced area.

A recent report from the TREND Multiple Listing Services, showed an increase in the median home price in June in New Castle and Kent counties.
