Delaware Electric Cooperative will hold its annual community fair and business meeting on August 9th at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington.
Members will get a free chicken dinner, have a chance to visit with various community organizations and hear an update on the state of the cooperative from CEO Bill Andrew.
Included again this year is a utility demonstration, where Co-op crews will show members how they restore power and rescue those who are injured without the help of a bucket truck.
More than six thousand DEC people are expected to attend the 80th annual meeting of the member-owned Cooperative.
Dinner and the community fair begins at 3 p.m. at the Centre Ice Rink and the business meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Dover Building.
A special presentation for members considering the installation or lease of a solar energy system will also be held in the Dover Building at 5 p.m.
“For eight decades, our annual meeting has provided co-op members with the opportunity to connect with the employees who keep their lights on. We look forward to this event every year. It provides members with important information about their member-owned utility and gives DEC the chance to hear from those we serve,” Andrew stated.
Members will be treated to live music from Junior Wilson and the Jones Boys. Members of Delaware Electric Cooperative are also encouraged to bring their family members.
“We want to visit with as many of our members as possible at the annual meeting. There is a lot to see and the food and entertainment are great. People can connect with their Cooperative and their community,” said Andrew.
The co-op’s Annual Meeting is the largest private gathering in southern Delaware. The cooperative serves members in Kent and Sussex counties.
