The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Delaware District Office honored  the District’s 2016 Small Business Award winners Thursday night at the DuPont Country Club

“As a local commemoration of the Presidentially-designated National Small Business Week, this event is an opportunity to recognize the achievements of small business and its advocates in Delaware,” said Fleming. “Every year the award winners honored at this event have truly distinguished themselves and represent the very best that the Delaware small business community has to offer.”

Businesses and lenders  honored at SBA’s 2016 Delaware Small Business Awards event were:

Small Business Persons of the Year: Chris Bisaha and Joe Baker, co-Owners, Henlopen City Oyster House, 50 Wilmington Ave, Rehoboth Beach.

Founded in June 2010, this full-service seafood restaurant and raw bar have rapidly grown to be a favorite among locals and visitors from across the country. National Geographic magazine singled them out saying, “After a day at the beach, head to Henlopen Oyster House for a platter of briny OystersThe owners will also be honored at a separate ceremony.

Small Business Exporters of the Year: Naresh Batta and Neeraj Batta, Owners of Batta Environmental Associates, 6 Garfield way, Newark, DE.

Batta Environmental began in 1982 as an asbestos and mold testing business. Today it has grown to have offices in three states as a comprehensive environmental consulting, engineering, and-and testing firm with more than 35 employees. They export their services and proprietary products around the globe.

 Woman-Owned Business of the Year: Jackie Liske, Owner of Shorecare of Delaware, 874 Walker Rd., Dover.

Having seen firsthand the complexities of managing the healthcare of a loved one, Jackie opened Shorecare of Delaware in 2009. Shorecare is an in-home health care agency that provides services to individuals in their home, assisted living, and long-term care facilities. With over 60 employees, Shorecare provides loving, customized care to hundreds of patients throughout Delaware.

 Minority-Owned Business of the Year: Melanie Thomas-Price, CEO, and Administrator of A Leap of Faith, Inc., 1715 West 4th St., Wilmington, Del.

Opening in 2003 as a child development center, A Leap of Faith provides day care services to children form 6 months to 5 years of age. Additional services include aftercare and summer programs for children aged from 5 to 11 years. The center provides extended hours, a safe nurturing environment, and specialized enrichment to the underserved inner city Wilmington community.

 Veteran Owned Business of the Year: Maryann and Daniel Ramirez, Co-owners of DAMARA Management, 4000 S. DuPont Highway, Dover Del.

Since opening in 2011,  DAMARA has grown to operate five Papa John’s restaurants with nearly 70 employees. Both Maryann and Dan retired from active duty in the U.S. Air Force after serving many years at Dover Air Force Base. They are consistently a top performer for the franchise and were invited to Papa John’s corporate headquarters in December 2015 as one of the top 15 franchisees in the country.

 Young Entrepreneurs of the Year:  Mac Nagaswami and Greg Star, Co- Owners of Carvertise, 1313 N. Market St., Wilmington, Del.

Carvertise is an outdoor advertising company specializing in using everyday drivers to carry a brand’s message. Since its founding in 2012 Mac and Greg have consistently grown the company to serve many clients around the region and today, have 545 cars advertising for 17 major accounts.

Small Business Champion of the Year:  Audrey Scott-Hynson.

In addition to serving as President and CEO of A. Scott Enterprises, LLC, Audrey is an Adjunct Professor at Delaware State University, Program Manager for the University’s Food Business Incubation Center, and Director of the Center for Business Growth at the Delaware Financial Literacy Institute. Additionally, she provides youth mentoring through the Delaware Center for Enterprise Development Junior Entrepreneurs in Training (JET) program.

 Special Achievement Award : Antara Dutta.

Antara has assisted nascent businesses to start, grow, and succeed while serving as President and counselor with the Delaware Chapter of SCORE. She is the founder of Sylvia, a community focused integrated wellness center. Additionally, she is co-founder of WEThink, a yearlong leadership, and business.
