Landgraf says the state faces challenges with its health care system that include low satisfaction with the system, high costs and a population with high rates of chronic diseases, such as diabetes. The state has received a federal grant that aims to address the shortcomings on a community level, she said.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Kimberly Nalda is the Remarkable Winner in our competition because she is creating an enterprise based on an innovative model that provides affordable quality health care to her patients,” said Sharon Kelly Hake, Great Dames founder and CEO.

Asked how she finds time to build a new business model, Nalda said she the practice is based on a membership model that minimizes the pressures that come from quotas and insurance paperwork.

Instead patients pay a monthly membership fee, an approach that allows more time to see patients. Fees can range from $20 a month for patients under 18  to $100 a month for those over 65.

Also offered is an in-house pharmacy that can offer prescriptions at deep discount. Also offered are a number of free or low-cost medical tests done in the office.

“I have designed every piece of this practice with a focus on quality care in a comfortable, warm environment where you will be treated as an individual, not a number,” Nalda said.

Finalists were:

  • Changing the Cancer Conversation, Rachel Makowitz, Delaware
