The Delaware Innovation Fund will hold an introductory meeting next month on angel investing.
The May 7 event will be held at the Emerging Enterprise Center at the New Castle C0unty Chamber of Commerce offices on Penns Way near the New Castle County Airport.
Angel investors are typically affluent individuals who invest in new enterprises that may not be at the stage where venture capital is an option.
Angels have been part of the investment scene for decades in the Delaware Valley.
However, entrepreneurs have cited the lack of access to early-stage funding, from the angel community as a big shortcoming in the state.
Legislation, championed by Gov. Jack Markell, has been proposed that would clear the way for safe online crowdfunding of start-ups by state residents without the paperwork that is now required.
The use of crowd-funding sites, such as Indygogo and Kickstarter have exploded in recent years.
The Delaware Innovation Fund was founded in the 1990s by the late David Freschman. The fund has a solid track record in investing in early stage companies.
Freschman also founded Early Stage East, a venture capital fair that for many years led to tens of millions of dollars in funding for start-ups in the region.
