Discount fashion store Stein Mart will open its first Delaware store in north Wilmington next month.
The store will open at Concord Square at 4221 Concord Pike. The Concord Pike area remains popular with retailers, due to the lack of a sales tax in Delaware.
It is one of a half-dozen stores that will open on March 10. Concord Square is anchored by a Giant supermarket and has about 236,000 square feet. Owner is Capano Management.
The other stores to open in March are in Arlington, TX; Madison, WI; Aurora CO; Naples, FL and King of Prussia, PA.
According to its website, Stein Mart stores offer the fashion merchandise, service and presentation of a better department or specialty store, at prices competitive with off-price retail chains.
The company has 278 locations nationwide as as well as an eCommerce site at www.steinmart.com. About a dozen stores are within 100 miles of nothern Delaweare.
The company, which has remained profitable, stepped up its expansion program during the past couple of years.
The publicly traded company is based in Jacksonville, FL and expanded over the years from its home base in the South.
The company remains under the management of the founding Stein family.
