The Greenwood-based cooperative issued a Beat the Peak Alert from 7-9 a.m. on Sunday and 6-8 a.m. on Monday. Temperatures are expected to be at or blow zero at those times.

The alert is voluntary.

Delaware Electric and Delmarva Power have programs that can reduce consumption during peak periods of energy use. However, in this region, peak power demand that taxes the grid comes in the summer months.

Regional grid operator PJM issued a Cold Weather Alert to its member utilities that include Delmarva Power/Pepco.
